Why is not the cheapest total always the best deal?

A small package often has the lowest total price simply because there is less in it. Per gram, capsule or milliliter, it can be more expensive than a larger package.

That is why per-unit price matters. If you use a product regularly, the lowest per-unit price can be more useful than the lowest checkout subtotal. If you are sampling, a smaller pack may still make sense.
